REFLECTION: Isaiah 49:1-7 “A Light to the Nations”
Have you ever wondered how much of your life is in your hands to determine
and how much depends on God? Does God have a plan for your life?
We read in today’s reading from Isaiah:
“The Lord called me before I was born, while I was in my mother’s womb he
named me.”
The Lord has a purpose for his servant Israel, his servant Jesus, and for us his
servants in the world today. That purpose involves us sharing in the mission to
be a light to the nations so that all people might her the good news of Jesus and
be reconciled to God.
Here is an outline of the message for today:
God’s Chosen Servant:
a. Chosen and appointed before birth (1)
b. Prepared and protected to be ready for use (2)
c. In him, God will be glorified (3)
d. Appointed to bring back God’s people (5)
Given an even greater task – the salvation of the world!
a. Is it enough just to bring back Gods people Israel?
b. He will be a be a light to the Nations
c. So that all the world may be saved (6)
Rejected for a while but praised forever
a. Deeply despised and hated by the nations
b. Kings and princes will bow low to honour you (7)
c. This will happen because God keeps his promises (7)
To Think About:
What is your part in God’s plan for the salvation of the world?
Are you serving? Is your light shining for Jesus?

UPDATE TO PRAYER LIST
In January we will be updating the list of names for intercessions. It has come to
our attention that some names on the list are for people who have either
recovered or died. In order to keep the list up to date and our prayers up to date,
we will be removing all names shortly and inviting people to add names again
only for people who are currently in need of prayer.
A BIG THANK YOU
To all the folk who have been helping with the gardening and watering. As we
have so many new plants, it is important to keep them watered in these hot
spells. Thank you for your help.
