REFLECTION: Luke 10:25-37 “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
The hope of eternal life continues to be a theme of importance today as much as ever. While many claim that they don’t believe in it and live just for this life, as people come to farewell their loved ones at a funeral, they want to know if there is something more when our life comes to an end. We want to know if the promises given in the Bible are real or not? Is the promise of eternal life real, or is it just wishful thinking, a fantasy? If it is real, how can we take hold of it? Does it just happen to everyone? Is it something we can earn? Is it something we can inherit? A teacher of the law came to Jesus and asked him: “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? (25). He responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Here is an outline of the message:
1. What must I do to inherit eternal life? (25-26)
a. What do the scriptures say? (26)
b. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and your neighbour as yourself. (27)
c. Do this, and you will live (28)
2. But the teacher of the law wanted to justify himself (29)
a. “Who is my neighbour?” (29)
b. How do we try and justify ourselves?
3. Jesus answered: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho…
a. A priest and a Levite passed by on the other side (31-32)
b. But a Samaritan was moved with pity and took care of him (33-35)
c. Jesus concluded: “Which of these three… was a neighbour to him? (36)
d. Jesus replied, “Go and do likewise” (37).
To think about:
Who is the person in need of your help that God has placed in your path?

With completion scheduled for September, we ask you to continue to pray for God’s wonderful provision for the remaining amount so that we might see the project completed for his glory and for the benefit of this Parish.
