Sunday 15th June 2025 – Trinity Sunday

REFLECTION: John 16:12-15 “Understanding the Trinity”

In life, there are many things that go over my head. Despite numerous lectures and physics courses, I still can’t say with any confidence that I understand how electricity works. But I do know that it is real and that it works. I just don’t fully understand it. It’s a bit that way with the doctrine of the Trinity. I don’t fully understand it, but I see it clearly in the Scriptures and I know it to be true. In our short reading from John’s gospel today, we get an insight into Jesus’ teaching around the way the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit work together as one God in three persons. It probably won’t answer all your questions about the Trinity, but there are somethings that are true that we will never fully understand. Here is an outline of this Sunday’s message.

1. The Trinity: A truth too much for the disciples to bear?

a. I still have many things to say to you (12)

b. But you cannot bear them now.

c. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth (13)

2. The role of the Spirit within the Trinity.

a. He will guide you into all the truth (13)

b. He will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears

c. He will declare to you the things that are to come.

3. The Spirit’s relationship with the Father and the Son in the Trinity.

a. He will glorify me (14)

b. He will take what is mine and declare it to you.

c. All that the Father has is mine.(15)

TO THINK ABOUT: If you had to explain to someone who has never heard of the Trinity just what it means, what would you say?

LATEST BUILDING FUND UPDATE

You may recall we set our anticipated shortfall to complete the building project at $300,000 in September last year. We are calling on the whole congregation to respond so that we might complete the project as planned in September this year. We are truly grateful to the response we have had so far and as at the end of May, we have received $172,836 since we launched the appeal. This is a wonderful provision and we praise God for it, but we still have a way to go. Please continue to ask God to supply all our needs and to give generously.
