REFLECTION: 2 TIMOTHY 4:6-18
2 Timothy 4:6-18 “Where does my help come from?”
Where do you go for help when the going gets tough? Do you find inner strength that will see
you through the toughest of trials? Is your strength in your family, your friends, or your
community?
The apostle Paul reminds us that while we do strive to do our best and our friends and family
are a great help, it is the Lord alone who can save us. Let us turn to him at all times for the
strength we need for each challenge we face. Here is an outline of today’s message.
1. We do our best to finish well the race
a. I have finished the race (6-7)
b. I have kept the faith (7)
c. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness (8)
2. Friends are a great support (mostly)
a. (Timothy) Do your best to come to me soon (9)
b. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful in my ministry (11)
c. Only Luke is with me
d. Bring my cloak, my books and above all the parchments (13)
3. But The Lord is faithful till the end (14-18)
a. At my first defence no one came to my support (16)
b. But the Lord stood by me and gave me the strength (17)
c. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack (18)
d. The Lord will save me for his heavenly Kingdom
