REFLECTION:
Mark 10:46-52 The healing of blind Bartimeus
How do you see Jesus? How do you see yourself?
How do you think Jesus sees you?
Do you see yourself the way Jesus sees you?
Today’s gospel reading from Mark Looks like a simple story. Upon first reading it, it
seems very straightforward and with an apparently simple message. Bartimaeus is
blind, he asks Jesus for help, Jesus miraculously heals him, he follows Jesus ... End
of story right?
That is of course a great message by itself. It teaches us that we should bring our
problems to Jesus, it teaches us that we need Him and it teaches us to follow Him.
But there is more to it than that. Let’s put this short story in its context.
Here is an outline of the message.
1. Mark is writing about people not seeing who Jesus really is
2. Bartimeus’s struggle
3. Job’s struggle with God – How Job sees himself and how God
sees Job.
4. Bartimeus’s testimony – He sees who Jesus is and Jesus
knows his faith.
5. Seeing things clearly – Trusting Jesus
To Think About:
What do you think are the blind spots in your life?
