Sunday 31st August 2025 – Twelth Sunday after Pentecost

REFLECTION: Hebrews 13:1-16. Service that is pleasing to God

Who are you trying to please with your life?

Are you a people-pleaser, always seeking to be liked and well received by

others? Maybe you are a self-satisfier, whose main interest is to make yourself

happy? Or are you a God-pleaser, seeking to live your life in a way that is

pleasing to God? Today’s reading from Hebrews 13 shows us how we can

live lives that are holy and pleasing to God.

Here is an outline:

Introduction: A call to live lives that are pleasing to God

1. To love each other deeply.

a. Let mutual love continue (1)

b. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers (2)

c. Remember those who are in prison (3)

2. To be content with what God has given us (4-6)

a. Be content with your spouse (4)

b. Be content with what you have (5)

c. Be obedient to those God has placed over you (7-8)

3. To continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God

a. Praise God and confess his name (15)

b. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have (16)
