REFLECTION: Luke 10:1-12, 17-24. “Jesus sends out the Seventy Two”
How do you start a church? Jesus started by calling on people one-by-one to follow him. He called together a small group of disciples and trained them, and then he sent them out to make more disciples. What’s more he trained them so that he would make disciples who would know how to make even more disciples. What we see in today’s gospel reading is Jesus’ new disciples first outing.
1. The Workers are few (1-3)
a. The harvest is plentiful (2)
b. Ask the Lord to send out workers into the harvest field.
c. Go, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. (3)
2. Travel lightly – no purse, bag or sandals. (4-6)
a. Trust God for his provision as you go.
b. Whatever house you enter, first say: Peace to this house. (5)
c. If it is a home of peace, that peace will return to you. (6)
3. Heal the sick and preach the good news (7-12).
a. Stay, eat and drink (7)
b. When you are welcomed in a town, eat what is set before you. (8)
c. Heal the sick and tell them the good news of the kingdom (9)
d. But when you are not welcomed, leave them but warn them (10-12)
4. Rejoice not in your power over demons, but in God’s grace to you (17-24)
To think about: Will I dare to go for God wherever he sends me? Am I willing to be a worker in the harvest?

LATEST BUILDING UPDATE
You may recall we set our anticipated shortfall to complete the building project at $300,000 in September last year. We are calling on the whole congregation to respond so that we might have had so far and as at the end of May, we have received $172,836 since we launched the appeal. This is a wonderful provision and we praise God for it, but we still have a way to go. Please continue to ask God to supply all our needs and to give generously.
